Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelenskyy has described last week’s tense Oval office exchange with US President Donald Trump as ‘’regrettable’’, as reported by The Associated Press. Despite the disagreement, he reasserted his commitment to work under Trump’s leadership to gain lasting peace. His statement that was shared on social media, came shortly after the United States has announced a halt in the military aid to Ukraine. However, in his late-night address, Zelenskyy mentioned that Ukraine has not received direct confirmation of the suspension of the aid and directed his government to take official clarification on it.

Zelenskyy seeks clarity on US military aid

‘’Ukraine and America deserve a respectful dialogue and a clear position from one another, especially when it comes to safeguarding lives during a full-scale war’’, he highlighted.

Zelenskyy stressed the need for transparent and respectful dialogue between Ukraine and the United States, particularly in terms of military support. He recalled an earlier brief pause in the assistance in the year and highlighted that such intervals create uncertainty. The Ukrainian President also pointed out that Kyiv is interested in signing a strategic deal with Washington related to rare-earth minerals and security cooperation.

Trump, addressing Congress, admitted receiving a letter from Zelenskyy stating Ukraine’s appreciation for US support in maintaining its sovereignty. ‘’None of us want an endless war,’’ Zelenskky stated in defense of the statement that Kyiv is opposed to negotiating peace. ‘’My team and I stand ready to work under President Trump’s strong leadership to get peace that lasts,’’ as reported by The Associated Press.

French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, hailed Ukraine’s commitment to diplomatic discussions. However, Ukraine continues to be firm that any peace agreement must ensure security guarantees and sovereignty.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyal threatened that recognizing Russian occupation of Ukrainian land would not be considered an unacceptable compromise as per the international law. Military experts advocate that the halt in the US military aid could strengthen Russia .
