Irene Gu, a 23-year-old influencer from Taiwan, has died, as per reports. Reputed news outlets across the world, including The Sun and Daily Mail, shared the horrific details surrounding the content creator’s presumed death this week.
The young influencer is believed to have been ambushed as she was leaving a cinema car park on Tuesday night, July 29. Her former romantic partner reportedly didn’t let her vehicle pass through. After blocking her path, he dragged her into a stairwell and slit her throat. Reports have since identified the suspect only by his last name ‘Liu,’ suggesting that he fled to his grandfather’s home. A police task force ultimately arrested him early Wednesday morning.
Liu is even said to have confessed to killing Irene Gu during the course of interrogation tied to the case’s investigation. As per the influencer’s ex-boyfriend’s alleged account, the pair was entangled in a clash over money. He indicated that Gu owed him 444,000 Taiwanese dollars (£10,530), which he lent her while they were still together.
Influencer Irene Gu’s social media post before her death
In the days leading up to her death, Gu shared a photo of a domestic violence complaint against Liu. She put across a chilling warning for him, saying, “If you hit me, I’ll go to the police, right?” In a separate post, she addressed how someone had suggested blocking him.
However, she pointed out that wouldn’t be enough because he would end up finding her, as he had previously troubled her co-workers, asking them if she was at work. Contrary to her former boyfriend’s claims about the money she was supposed to pay him back, Irene firmly asserted, “Most importantly, I don’t owe him money!”
In the aftermath of a soured relationship, the content creator formally accused the suspect of assaulting her in a complaint filed in May. She even applied for a protective order. Despite repeatedly being summoned for the legal matter, her ex-boyfriend never came to the court.

Who was Irene Gu?
Reports further contended that Irene had about 30,000 followers on Instagram and Threads. She is said to have been a public relations officer at a nightclub in Taipei, which is where Liu also worked as a security guard.
Gu reportedly crossed paths with the suspect when she first went clubbing, following her mother’s suggestion that she should see the world. The influencer is believed to have given up her banking career and taken on her PR role so that her lifestyle and schedule could align with Liu’s.
