Tech billionaire Elon Musk took to X on Wednesday and expressed regret over some of his social media posts against US President Donald Trump. Musk acknowledged that his comments may have crossed a line.
In a post on X, Musk wrote that he regretted some of the things he said about President Trump the previous week, admitting they went too far. I regret some of my posts about President “I regret some of my posts about President Donald Trump last week. They went too far,” Musk wrote on X.
Musk’s “regret” post comes after a public spat with Trump via social media posts and interviews. The disagreement began after Musk stepped away from his advisory role in the government and openly criticised the Republican Party’s proposed changes to the tax bill.
Musk vs Trump: The story so far
There were already signs of the fight thawing between the two as Trump had earlier said that he would keep his Tesla. Even Musk was seen supporting the Trump administration for their stance on the protests in Los Angeles against the immigration crackdown. It’s also worth noting here that Trump while speaking to NBC news had warned Musk of “very serious consequences”. The US President had also revealed that he had no intention of speaking to Musk.
Just a week earlier, Trump had publicly praised Elon Musk for his role as head of DOGE, an advisory panel focused on cutting federal spending. Musk later resigned from the position, citing disagreements with how government funds were being allocated.
Soon after stepping down, Musk began criticising one of Trump’s key legislative proposals. His posts sparked strong reactions, leading Trump to accuse him of being ungrateful and even hint at a review of federal contracts given to Musk’s companies.
The situation escalated when Musk shared a series of controversial posts, alleging a connection between Trump and Jeffrey Epstein, who died by suicide in jail in 2019 while facing charges of sex trafficking.
“Time to drop the really big bomb: (Trump) is in the Epstein files,” Musk posted, referring to confidential government records believed to contain names of people associated with Epstein. He claimed the documents were being kept hidden and implied they could expose damaging information about Trump.
Musk did not provide any proof for his accusations. However, later, Musk had deleted the post without any explanation. Reacting to the claims, Trump had told the NBC the accusations were baseless.
