US Vice President Kamala Harris’ election campaign announced on Sunday that it has raised $200 million in a week since she became the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate. A total of 170,000 new volunteers have joined within the week. Last week, US President Joe Biden stepped out from the presidential race and backed Harris for the November 5 election against Donald Trump.
Harris’s deputy manager, Rob Flaherty has posted on his official X account and said,’’ Since the beginning of our campaign, @KamalaHarris has fundraised $200 million, in which 66% has been donated by the new volunteers. We’ve added 170,000 new volunteers.’’
Harris vs Trump
As per a survey conducted by Reuters, a fierce competition between Harris and Trump is expected. Harris has so far accomplished support from almost all the delegates for the Democratic National Convention. This will help in ensuring her nomination as the party’s presidential candidate for next month.
Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison mentioned on MSNBC,’’ Our vice president is the tentative nominee, with an official vote slated for August 1’’.
A campaign co-chair, Mitch Landrieu has stated that Harris,’’ had one of the best weeks in the politics for the last 50 years,’’ he further added,’’ This will be going to be a neck-to-neck race.’’
The arrival of Harris has energized the campaign that was struggling because of the doubts about Biden’s capability to beat Trump or even run the government properly once re-elected.
Recently, Biden announced his exit from the presidential race amidst concern about his old age and health but he has vowed to continue serving in his post till his tenure ends on January 20, 2025.
