Scenes form Zohran Mamdani‘s campaign watch party (and other such unaffiliated gatherings) instantly consumed social media trends on Tuesday (US time), as Associated Press was the first call the New York City mayoral election race. Celebrations soared a notch higher as soon as the US news outlet declared the Indian-origin assemblyman as the new NYC mayor slated to take office in January. The very moment Mamdani’s victory was called was caught on camera, with super-charged chants of “Zohran, Zohran, Zohran!” taking over the room.

Donald Trump critic Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) was also in attendance at Mamdani’s watch party. “He is a bright light, showing the future path for championing working families in New York, and that’s the thing I care about,” she told reporters amid the celebrations. “I know for Zohran, it’s not about Democrat, Republican or independent — it’s about how we help people.”

People came out in droves to attend the gathering at Brooklyn Paramount. A video on X spotted people joining a large queue, awaiting their chance to get in. Someone added to the chatter, saying, “Mamdani’s celebration party is in downtown Brooklyn because this is what happens when a guy from Astoria gets cool: he starts making you ride the train for an hour to Brooklyn to hang out with him.”

Other scenes from the celebratory event included eventgoers dancing to Kendrick Lamar’s own victory lap song “Not Like Us.” Joanne Grill, a 62-year-old co-chair of the New York State Tenant Block, rejoiced at the sight of the historic win, saying, “We beat the millionaires and billionaires — little old us, people, tenants, real working-class New Yorkers are taking this city back,” according to Associated Press.

Another video coming from Kensington showed Mamdani voters taking to the streets to cheer on the Indian-American politician’s groundbreaking victory. Women were seen chanting “My mayor, your mayor” in the Bengali language.

Patience finally paid off for the huge crowd waiting to catch a glimpse of the NYC mayor-elect to be as Mamdani took the stage after winning the election race. He greeted his voters, “Thank you, my friends!”
