An Indian master’s student has been charged with allegedly stabbing two teenagers with a metal fork while on board the Lufthansa 431 flight headed from Chicago to Germany, according to the US Justice Government. The South Asian national has been identified as 28-year-old Praneeth Kumar Usiripalli. He was arrested on October 25 (US time).

Due to the mid-air shocker, the aircraft was immediately diverted to Boston Logan International Airport, where Usiripalli was taken into custody. According to court documents, Usiripalli allegedly attacked two 17-year-old boys. One was struck in the shoulder and the other in the back of the head after the flight’s meal service.
The US Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts has since announced that Praneeth Kumar Usiripalli was charged with one count of assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to do bodily harm during the aircraft journey.

Although crew members tied to best hold down what is being deemed Usiripalli’s unprovoked stabbing attempt, the Indian student’s antics got way out of control. In addition to targeting the two minors on the plane, he is said to have formed a gun with his fingers and was seen pulling its imaginary trigger in his mouth.
As per the official report, Usiripalli even slapped a female passenger, and tried to hit a crew member.
Indian national’s student status in the US explored
Officials have described him as an Indian national who in the US on a student visa. Although he does have not legal status in the country, he was previously enrolled as a master’s student pursuing biblical studies.
He is now set to appear in a Boston federal court “at a later date,” as per the official news release. The charge against Usiripalli comes with a sentence of up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
