Former Fox TV host Angelynn ‘Angie’ Mock has been identified as the woman accused in the stabbing death of 80-year-old Anita Avers, who is her own mother. The 47-year-old former St Louis news anchor has since been arrested and booked into Sedgwick County Jail on a first-degree murder charge, as per jail records cited by US media reports.
According to the Wichita Police Department, Kansas, officers responded to a home on East Crowley around 7:50 am local time on Friday, aka Halloween. The sheriff’s office further announced that the murder-accused woman was being held on a $1 million bond.
The ex-Fox 2 News anchor was spotted outside the residence with cuts on her hands. Meanwhile, the Avers was discovered unresponsive in her bed with multiple stab wounds. She was ultimately pronounced dead after being rushed to a local hospital.
Former Fox News anchor accused of murder: Local reports
Local reports have since revealed that Angelynn Mock allegedly attacked her mother to in self-defence. Dispatch recordings quoted by news outlet KAKE suggested that a woman reached out to 911, saying, she had “stabbed her mother to save herself.”
Alyssa Castro, a local neighbourhood resident, further shared with the outlet that she saw a heavily blood-stained woman coming towards her vehicle on October 31. As per Castro’s account, the woman wanted to call 911.

“There was a woman who approached our vehicle with like blood, like her hands were filled, her body was filled with blood, asking to call 911,” she told KAKE. She also divulged that the person, now ID’d as Mock, took hold of her phone and dashed back into the house. The murder suspect is then believed to have called the authorities and told them that she stabbed her mother to save herself.
Who is Angelynn Mock?
She stepped in as an anchor for Fox 2 News in St Louis from 2011 to 2015, according to the Independent. Additionally, NBC Chicago highlighted that one of her previous stints involved working for KOKH FOX 25 in Oklahoma City.
Her LinkedIn account confirms her that she remained as a morning anchor at KTVI Fox 2 from March 2011 to January 2014. Thereafter, she switched to the evening reporter’s post for a little over a year. Mock’s other prior media stints included serving as a sports reporter at ABC’s KLKN TV, KAAL-TV, and a weekend sports anchor at CNBC’s KECI-TV in the early 2000’s.
Mock switched between various sales jobs all through August 2017. She eventually went on a two-year hiatus. At the time of her arrest, she was working for a data management software company called Imaging Office Systems. The former news anchor graduated from St Cloud State University, with Mass Communications/Speech Communication, Television Broadcasting as her area of expertise.
Her mother, on the other hand, was a marriage and family therapist at Wichita Counseling Professionals, as per the confirmation from Avers’ husband to KAKE.
With the investigation still ongoing, officials are have yet to determine a motive for the stabbing death of Anita Avers.
