US President Donald Trump faced backlash on social media after being seen dancing to “YMCA” at a New York Yankees game on Thursday night, the same day conservative commentator Charlie Kirk tragically died.

His dance also led to severe criticism, as it occurred on the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

The president’s dance, which took place while seated, involved singing along to the iconic song and moving his arms to the rhythm.

Trump, dressed in his signature suit and red tie, was seated next to Yankees team president Randy Levine, engaging in conversation throughout the game. At other times, he was seen sitting alone. Before the game, the New York Yankees honoured Charlie Kirk with a moment of silence in his memory.

The moment created a lot of online trolling, with many questioning the timing of his actions given the gravity of the events surrounding Kirk’s death.

How did Charlie Kirk die?

The shooting occurred around midday as Kirk was engaging with audience members in a live Q&A at Uttah Valley University. Kirk was responding to questions about gun violence when a single shot rang out, striking him in the neck.

He collapsed on stage as students and attendees rushed to flee the auditorium in panic. Kirk was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

‘Thought he was so upset about Charlie?’

Netizens slammed Trump over his dance. A user noted, “I thought he was so upset about Charlie ? And on 9/11 Well he did sort of celebrate he had the tallest building on that day.”

Another added, “The world is on the brink of war, economy is shit and he’s dancing at a ball game. There have been multiple shootings, political unrest, child rape victims and about to have a shutdown. We great yet?.”

A netizen wrote, “Dancing? Is he not supposed to be in mourning?.” “It’s what Charlie would have wanted lol,” added another.

“Imagine if Biden went to a baseball game on this day and in this time of crisis,” added a user.

Another stated, “One of his good friends died and thus us how he acts. Also it’s 9/11.”

“Dancing so soon after his friend was murdered? Tad bit unseemly isn’t it?,” claimed another
