Travis Kelce and Chiefs head coach Andy Reid had a heated exchange during Sunday Night Football against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. The confrontation took place during the second quarter after Harrison Butker missed a 40-yard field goal. Broadcast cameras captured Reid shouting at Kelce, then bumping him on the sideline. Kelce, in response, was seen mouthing a few words back before the pair went their separate ways.
NBC announcer Mike Tirico noted the similarities, saying, “We’ve seen them before, kind of get heated there. You can sense the frustration on both sides of that story.”
Travis Kelce and Andy Reid clash during Chiefs-Giants game
After yet another poor play, Kelce walked off the field only to be met by a furious Reid, who could be seen shouting at the tight end. The clash came during a rough first half for Kelce, who had just two catches for four yards. The Chiefs were forced to settle for two field goals against the winless Giants.
Rookie Cam Skattebo scored his second NFL touchdown to tie the game at 6-6 before Kansas City managed a slim 9-6 lead at halftime.

Reid later downplayed the sideline showdown while speaking to NBC as he addressed his players: “That’s okay, we need some juice… so that’s good!” Yet fans on social media had little patience, with one saying, “Man, you can feel this whole situation splitting at the seams… Kelce looks basically disinterested at this point.” Another warned, “This team might actually be done,” while a third added, “KC is falling apart.”
This is not the first time Kelce and Reid have clashed on the sidelines. The last time the two made headlines was during the Super Bowl when Kelce’s now-fiancée, Taylor Swift, was watching.
Travis Kelce Fined $14,491 by NFL
Kelce’s rough start this season continued off the field as well. The tight end was recently fined $14,491 by the NFL for making “obscene gestures” during Kansas City’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles on September 14.
During a 23-yard play, Kelce appeared to mimic a taunt toward the rival team, a moment that quickly went viral on social media. During the same game, he was heard telling his teammates, “I’m sick of this s***,” just before a Fox broadcast break. Kansas City ultimately lost 20-17, marking the franchise’s worst 0-2 start since 2014.
Kelce himself admitted on his New Heights podcast that he hadn’t been ready for the season’s opening drive. “I know it’s kinda sounding like a broken record from last year’s Super Bowl, but that’s on us as leaders. I’ll take the most accountability myself. I wasn’t ready for that first drive,” he said.
