In a new interview, American outlet CBS News’ popular program ’60 Minutes’ confronted US President Donald Trump about the controversially rising brutal tactics employed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) since his return to office in January. The MAGA leader’s tacit and explosive response to the question immediately went viral online, as he was heard admitted that the raids “haven’t gone far enough” during his second administration.

While Trump’s full interview was slated to air on Sunday evening (US time), the short glimpse at the president’s recent media appearance had already generated a lot of buzz. Merely hours ago, the official social media account of ’60 Minutes’ took to X and shared a clip of the interaction. Therein, host Norah O’Donnell outrightly urged the Republican politician to address the increasing controversial clashes between ICE agents and citizens.

She particularly brought up a September incident, wherein an ICE officer was caught on camera as he aggressively shoved an Ecuadoran woman to the ground at a New York immigration court. The clip, which also pictured the woman’s children watching the incident unfold, ultimately went viral, and prompted intense scrutiny.

Although the Department of Homeland Security relieved the man of his duties on a temporary basis, the agent was ultimately reinstated following a preliminary review.

At the time, DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin condemned the officer’s action. “The officer’s conduct in this video is unacceptable and beneath the men and women of ICE,” she said in a statement. “Our ICE law enforcement are held to the highest professional standards.”

However, when directly asked about the issue in his latest media outing, Trump had different words to share.

Trump on controversial and brutal ICE raids

“Recently, Americans have been watching videos of ICE tackling a young mother, tear gas being used in a Chicago residential neighbourhood, and the smashing of car windows,” the CBS News anchor highlighted. “Have some of these raids gone too far?” she finally asked Trump.

The US president then replied: “No, I think they haven’t gone far enough.” He ultimately put the blame on “liberal judges… put in by Biden and Obama” for holding his government back.

When asked if he was “okay with those tactics,” he added, “Our ICE law enforcement are held to the highest professional standards. Many of them are murderers.”

O’Donnell also pushed the president to address how his administration had mostly deported “landscapers, nannies, construction workers…” Trump again countered the claim suggesting that authorities had only hit out against landscapers who are “criminals.”

He further asserted, “We have to start off with a policy, and the policy has to be, you came into the country illegally, you’re going to go out however, we’re going to work with you, and you’re going to come back into our country legally.”
