Air India on Tuesday alerted passengers about possible flight delays caused by a “third-party disruption,” which is impacting “check-in systems at various airports.” The carrier noted that this disruption is affecting multiple airlines, not just Air India.

Check-in Systems Affected, Passengers Advised to Arrive Early

“Our airport teams are working diligently to ensure a smooth check-in experience for all passengers,” Air India said in a post on social media platform X. The airline added that the system was being gradually restored, but some flights would continue to experience delays “until the situation fully normalises.” Passengers were urged to check their flight status before heading to the airport and to arrive earlier than usual.

Similar Technical Glitch Last Month Caused Mass Delays

This is not the first time such an incident has disrupted air travel. Last month, over 400 domestic and international flights faced delays due to a technical problem in the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS) at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi. Airlines including Air India, Indigo, and SpiceJet were affected, resulting in longer queues and slower airport operations.

The AMSS system glitch forced air traffic controllers to manually prepare flight plans using available data, a time-consuming process that contributed to the delays. Following the incident, a review meeting was conducted by the Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) with the Chairman of Airports Authority of India (AAI), Member ANS, and other officials, who issued directions to resolve the issues.
