‘No wonder countries are deporting…’ Netizens slam Indians in US for Diwali fireworks past 10 PM as police intervene
Viral video shows US police stopping Diwali fireworks after 10 PM, sparking debate over safety, noise laws, and cultural sensitivity during late-night celebrations across America.
A video from the United States showing Diwali celebrations being halted by police and fire officials has gone viral on social media platforms. The footage shows officers stepping in to stop people from bursting fireworks on a public street late at night in violation of local safety and noise regulations.
In the viral clip, a large crowd can be seen celebrating Diwali with bright and loud fireworks while police and fire department personnel attempt to douse the flames by sprinkling water.
The person who shared the video stated that the authorities intervened because the fireworks continued past 10 PM, breaching local restrictions. In the video, onlookers can be heard cheering and shouting as the officers worked to extinguish the fireworks.
As Indians marked Diwali across several parts of the US, similar reports of late-night celebrations and safety violations emerged from multiple states questioning the civic sense of Indians.
Videos and posts described instances of fireworks being set off in public spaces, with some residents criticising the disregard for community guidelines.
Illegal fireworks in US
On Tuesday, following Diwali night, the Morrisville Police Department in Morrisville, North Carolina, shared a post explaining damage caused by illegal fireworks.
“Recently, illegal fireworks were set off at Church Street Park, damaging the cricket field and leaving behind a significant amount of litter. The incident jeopardizes community safety and negatively impacts local sports programs and park visitors,” the department’s community page stated.
The post further added, “While we appreciate the community interest in celebrating holidays, the private use of fireworks is prohibited in Morrisville parks, greenways, and other public property. This ban includes the use of firecrackers and pyrotechnics which are illegal to use without a permit. The rule is enforced due to safety concerns and noise ordinances. Be aware that certain fireworks are illegal to sell or possess in North Carolina. These include firecrackers, ground spinners, bottle rockets, Roman candles, and aerial fireworks.”
Reports of similar interventions also surfaced from Texas, particularly in Dallas, Frisco, and Melissa, where authorities warned residents that lighting fireworks after hours could lead to fines and citations.
Just weeks earlier, a public celebration of the Indian festival Ganesh Chaturthi in Texas drew controversy after crowds blocked a residential street.
‘One bad fish ruins everything’
Netizens also posted their opinion on the post. A user noted, “No wonder every country is deporting indians… Generalization hai, but one bad fish ruins the pond.” Another added, “When will these idiots NRIs understand to not be a nuisance to the society in general!?!=And then they say “don’t be racist against Indians”. Dumb people are ruining our image in the west.”
“Indians will not understand by putting water. Start putting them in jail and see how this will stop,” added a user. “No one loves India and Indian festivals more than people who decided to leave India.Do all your shenanigans in India na, why do these things outside where people actually value their night time peace and breathable air?,” questioned a user.
“I don’t see a point in renewing my passport anymore. By the time I wish to go anywhere I don’t think any country would let us in,” claimed another.
