Vance Luther Boelter, the suspect in fatal shooting of a Minnesota lawmaker and her husband, and the assassination attempt of another lawmaker and his spouse, has been captured after a day of manhunt.
“The face of evil. After relentless and determined police work, the killer is now in custody,” the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office announced on Facebook. “Thanks to the dedication of multiple agencies working together along with support from the community, justice is one step closer.”
Vance Boelter arrested
Hennepin County Sheriff Dawanna Witt also broke down in tears while confirming Vance Boelter’s arrest in a phone call with NBC News. She further affirmed that the accused was taken into custody without any hostile interventions at 9:12 pm on Sunday. The officers involved and the man himself did not incur any injuries during the event. According to KSTP, Boelter was found in a field near Green Isle in Sibley County.
Boelter is said to have assassinated state Rep Melissa Hortman and her husband. His alleged additional attempt to assassinate Sen John Hoffman and his wife ultimately failed as the couple was taken in surgery. They survived the shooting incident.
Over the weekend, US officials also discovered more evidence in the car associated with the suspect. Law enforcement found “items of evidence that are relevant to this investigation,” said Drew Evans, superintendent of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
His so-called manifesto found a day prior to the addition evidence recovery simply lists out a names instead of laying down a motive. “When we did a search of the vehicle, we did find a manifesto that identified many lawmakers and other officials. We immediately made alerts to the state to provide security wherever necessary,” Brooklyn Park Police Chief Mark Bruley said at a Saturday press conference.
Minnesota suspect’s wife detained
Hours ago, law enforcement sources also told a US media outlet that a vehicle carrying Boelter’s wife, and three other relatives, was located at a traffic stop near Onamia late Saturday morning (US time). While no one appears to have been arrested, the police reportedly briefly detained the passengers for questioning. According to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS, the vehicle had a weapon, ammunition, cash and passports.
