At least 14 people were injured after a reported mass stabbing at a factory in Japan‘s Mishima on Friday, news agency AFP reported.

Police rushed to the Yokohama Rubber Mishima Plant in Mishima City, Shizuoka, after reports emerged that “five or six people have been stabbed” by a man who broke into the factory, and that a “liquid had been poured on them,” at 4:30pm local time on Boxing Day (December 26).

Eight of the victims were reportedly rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Suspected attacker arrested

A suspect has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and a probe into the incident is underway, The Mirror reported, quoting the police.

What is known about the factory?

The Yokohama Rubber factory is located in a residential area about 2 kilometres southeast of Mishima’s main train station. According to the company’s website, the plant covers around 112,000 square meters of space and produces tires for passenger cars and trucks.

The company had over 980 employees as of December last year.
