US Senior Counsellor for Trade and Manufacturing Peter Navarro continues to hit it out against India on social media despite being called out for spreading unreliable claims on X, formerly Twitter. In what has stretched out into a tedious and long tirade targeting the South Asian nation for its purchase of Russian oil, the senior Donald Trump aide reiterated his accusations against the country while 50% tariffs are already rocking its economy amid Russia’s war in Ukraine.
In a rather fresh scathing remark, Navarro accused India for commencing its purchase of Russian oil in “large quantities” before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Despite the unbalanced playing field and being called out for America’s hypocrisy over its own ties with the war aggressor, Navarro called the finances backing India’s Russian oil purchase “blood money.”
Peter Navarro claims India started buying more Russian oil after Ukraine invasion
“More bullsh*t from X. Fact: India didn’t buy Russian oil in large quantities before Russia invaded Ukraine. It’s blood money and people are dying. Stick that up your keister Mother Jones and shame on you,” he wrote on X Monday evening (IST).
🧵 Should X put up posts like one below where foreign interests masquerade as objective observers and interfere with domestic U.S. economics and politics? See SCREEN SHOT! Take poll on next post. pic.twitter.com/xb1wakeWFV

The latest addition to his series of incendiary posts against India came days after he again claimed that India was buying Russian oil “purely to profit/Revenues feed Russian war machine.” He even slammed the Washington Post for publishing an article titled, “Inside the Trump team’s conflicting efforts to mend ties with India.”
It insisted that State Secretary Marco Rubio and US Trade Rep Jamieson Greer were allegedly hashing out the parameters of a potential trade deal for India while Navarro was walking on a different path altogether by continuing his attacks on the country and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
At one point, Navarro even spoke out against the Elon Musk-led social media platform as ‘community notes,’ backed by credible news sources fact-checked him over India actually importing four times more from Ukraine than America did in 2024. A Forbes India analysis of trade data indicated that even though US President Donald Trump has been repeatedly challenging and threatening India’s stand, New Delhi imported good worth more than $1 billion from Kiev last year, while the US’ import figures fell lower than $500 million that same year.

A subsequent post by the senior trade advisor was followed by another X remark, stating, “Community Notes are not written by “foreign interests.” They’re a crowdsourced, global fact-checking system designed to reduce bias.” It further read, “Navarro himself has often commented on other nations’ policies (in bad faith), so international perspectives on US policy are fair commentary.”
Senior Trump aide starts a poll targeting India’s ‘propagandists’ on X
Navarro inevitably saw this as his entry-point onto a new stage of hot debates against India. He started a poll, tweeting, “On earlier post, you can see Indian special interests trying to interfere with domestic dialogue with lies about India buying Russian oil. Should X present this crap as comments from ‘diverse viewpoints’?”
The Trump aide who previously launched a controversy for contentiously mentioning “Brahmins,” an Indian caste label (or possibly the ‘Boston Brahmins‘), was later again red-flagged by X’s community notes. In light of his new poll, the platform slammed him for stating the obvious, “Peter Navarro is playing the classic game of crying wolf where none exists. Community notes are, as the name suggests, community notes. And he got noted for his false OP (linked below).”
Having already been called out for his “hypocrisy,” Peter Navarro continued targeting India, bemoaning that despite having the largest population in the world, the country had just managing “few hundred thousand X propagandists to jerk around a poll?” His message alluded to the many Indians or Indian-origin people speaking out against him given his recent streak of social media rants against the country. “Too funny. America: look at how foreign interests use our social media to advance their agenda.”

In an even more recent update, Navarro also attacked BRICS, the intergovernmental organisation which includes India as a core member. While speaking to the ‘War Room’ podcast, he cast doubt on the international alliance, questioning if the countries therein would “survive without selling to the United States.” He added that in case the affiliated nations do sell to America, they emerge as “vampires sucking our blood dry with their unfair trade practices.”
“I just remembered, it was China that gave Pakistan the nuclear bomb. You got ships flying around the Indian ocean now with Chinese flags,” he continued. “Modi, let’s see how you work that out…”
I don’t see the BRICS alliance lasting.
