While US President Donald Trump is planning an expansive slate of celebrations to commemorate the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, his critics have no plans of bumping the brakes on their already raging nation-wide “No Kings” activism.

Instead of playing into acts of conventional Independence Day festivities defined by all-decked out barbecue spreads and fireworks, some Americans have different plans this July 4. Empowered by their anti-Trump ideologies, many have already announced their decision to take to the streets and protest against the Republican leader’s administration.

The Friday protest-fest comes nearly a month after “No Kings” protests publicly rejected “authoritarianism” on the very day the Donald Trump-backed military parade – the largest in Washington in decades – unfolded in honour of the 250th anniversary of the US Army, coincidentally falling on the POTUS’ 79th birthday.

As a result, the upcoming wave of demonstrations will bring forth a collective amalgamation of the “Free America Weekend” organised by Women’s March and a new round of the previously held protests, aka “No Kings 2.0.”

July 4 protests: Americans to take to streets on US Independence Day

‘Free America Weekend’: Women’s March, a collective behind protests across US cities against sexism and oppression, has released a long list of more than 140 events slated for July 4. In a statement, the group detailed, “This July 4th, while the U.S. marks Independence Day, we’ll gather across the country—on porches, in town squares, backyards, and streets—to stand for real freedom and build a vision of a Free America, brick-by-brick.”

The organisation added, “They want us scared, divided, and alone. They don’t want us to dream about freedom. But that’s exactly what we have to do.”

Here are some “Free America” events taking place across the US over the weekend, as per Newsweek.
