US aircraft mishaps

This comes a day after a Delta Air Lines plane faced severe turbulence, which left 25 people hospitalised. Carrying 275 passengers and 13 crew members, it was bound for Amsterdam but was diverted to Minneapolis after the in-flight disturbance. As per eyewitness accounts, one of the crew members was sent flying after the food cart misbalanced in the aircraft aisle.

Similarly, American Airlines, in July, faced an emergency evacuation after fire was spotted in the plane. Passengers, already on board, were evacuated with a slide just minutes before take-off.

The repeated civil aviation accidents have come under scrutiny after the fatal Air India Ahmedabad plane crash on June 12. Taking the lives of over 260 people on board, it nose-dived into a medical college hostel in the city, a black day in civil aviation history. While the cause of the crash was not pinpointed by officials, the Boeing aircraft had a sudden fuel engine switch cut-off mid-air in an attempt to regain thrust.
