An Arizona plane crash killed four people on Tuesday, August 5 (US time). All victims to have lost their lives were medical personnel, and they were on their way to pick up a patient at the time of the horrific tragedy. Police revealed that the medical transport plane was registered to CSI Aviation, a medical flight service based in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
According to the Navajo Police Department, a small, dual-propeller plane (the Beechcraft 300) crashed around 12:40 pm on Tuesday (local time) near Chinle Municipal Airport.
The unprecedented happened as the aircraft was attempting to land at the airport, following which it erupted into flames. While the victims haven’t been publicly identified yet, officials noted that neither of them were Arizona locals.
What caused the US airplane crash?
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are heading the investigation, which has yet to disclose the circumstances that may have led to the plane crash near the northern Arizona airport. Authorities have since cut off public access to the airport due to the ongoing investigation.
As of now, police have merely divulged “something went wrong” as the plane was trying to approach land in the Navajo Nation, an American Indian reservation of land, as per The Mirror UK. Meanwhile, District Police Commander Emmett Yazzie confirmed that the medical crew onboard the Beechcraft 300 was en route to pick up a patient from Chinle Hospital, local facility with merely 60 beds.
Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren expressed his heartbreak after learning about the Arizona tragedy. “These were people who dedicated their lives to saving others, and their loss is felt deeply across the Navajo Nation,” he wrote in a social media post. “We honour their service, their sacrifice, and the love they showed our communities through their work. On behalf of the Navajo Nation, I extend my deepest condolences to their families, colleagues, and all who are grieving.”
Pictures of the spine-chilling aftermath of the crash have since surfaced on social media. They show a small plane’s wreckage beside an asphalt patch. Another look at the impacted aircraft even catches smoke emanating from the crash debris.
