Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron jointly inaugurated India’s new consulate in Marseille on Wednesday, marking a new chapter in Indo-French relations. 

PM  is currently visiting France at the invitation of Macron, celebrated the occasion alongside the French President with a symbolic press of a button, unveiling the consulate.

The inauguration of the consulate is seen as a step towards strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations, enhancing consular services and fostering greater cultural and economic cooperation.

Earlier in the day, the two leaders paid a solemn visit to the historic Mazargues Cemetery in Marseille, where they honored the sacrifices of Indian soldiers who fought and lost their lives during the Great War. The leaders laid wreaths and paid their respects to the fallen heroes, acknowledging their significant contribution to the French cause during World War I.

Following the ceremonial visit, Modi and Macron engaged with members of the local community, interacting with the crowd. The inauguration and the leaders’ presence in Marseille underscore the growing significance of the India-France partnership in global affairs.
