Oscar-winning actor and environmental advocate Leonardo DiCaprio publicly endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris on Friday, sharing a video on Instagram to explain his support.
“Climate change is destroying our planet and hurting our economy. We need bold action to protect both,” DiCaprio said. “That’s why I’m voting for Kamala Harris.” DiCaprio highlighted Harris’ environmental record, noting her role in passing the Inflation Reduction Act and her ambitious goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.
The actor also referenced recent Hurricanes Helene and Milton as evidence of the urgent need for climate action. As vice president, Harris cast the tie-breaking vote for President Joe Biden’s climate legislation, which passed with exclusive Democratic backing.
In his message, DiCaprio criticised former President Donald Trump for rolling back environmental protections and withdrawing from the Paris climate accord. Trump, he argued, “continues to deny the science” behind climate change.
Harris has garnered endorsements from high-profile figures, including Taylor Swift, Oprah Winfrey, Meryl Streep, Chris Rock, and George Clooney. On Thursday, she held a rally in suburban Atlanta with former President Barack Obama and musician Bruce Springsteen. Beyoncé, whose song “Freedom” serves as a campaign anthem, is expected to attend Harris’ rally in Houston on Friday, according to the Associated Press.
Trump, meanwhile, has secured endorsements from figures such as Elon Musk, Dennis Quaid, Roseanne Barr, and Kid Rock.
