US Presidential Election Results 2024 Date, Time in India: The United States is poised for a closely watched election as former President Donald Trump faces off against Vice President Kamala Harris. With early voting already underway since September, more than 74 million ballots have been cast nationwide, nearly half of the total votes recorded in the 2020 election.

As of Sunday, Harris holds a slight edge in the national polling average, bolstered by strong support among female voters. Trump, however, is gaining traction among Hispanic voters, particularly men, according to Reuters.

Voting schedule

On Tuesday, most states will open voting centers between 6 am and 8 am local time. Polls will close at 8 pm local time. In the seven crucial swing states—Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina, Michigan, Arizona, Wisconsin, and Nevada—polls will close at various times between 7 pm and 10 pm Eastern Time (5.30 am to 8.30 am IST on November 6).

Results timeline

The earliest results are expected from Georgia, where polls close at 7 pm ET (5.30 am IST on Wednesday). Early and mail-in ballots will be counted first. North Carolina, which closes polls 30 minutes after Georgia, is also expected to report results on election night. In Michigan, where polls close at 9 pm ET (7.30 am IST on Wednesday), results may not be available until later in the day.

Arizona’s Maricopa County officials have indicated that postal ballots dropped off on Election Day could take up to 13 days to count, while Nevada could see delays due to its acceptance of late-arriving mail ballots. Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, which do not permit pre-election ballot processing, could also experience extended counting times.

In Wisconsin, results are anticipated shortly after polls close at 9 pm ET (7.30 am IST on Wednesday) for smaller counties.
