Ukraine launched several drones at the Slavyansk oil refinery in the Krasnodar region of Russia, local officials said on Sunday. This sparked a brief fire at the site.
The drones were “neutralised”, but a blaze broke out as a result of the fall of one of the devices, said the operational headquarters of the region on the Telegram messaging app.
The administration said that the blaze was extinguished, and there were no deaths as a result of the fire itself. However, Preliminary information indicated that one person had died of a heart attack, it added.
Roman Siniagovskyi, head of the Slavyansk administrative district, said on Telegram that refinery staffers were evacuated and there was no danger to nearby populated places from the attack.
Drones destroyed
Meanwhile, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin informed that two drones were eliminated near the Russian capital, with no damage or injuries reported.
Russia blames Ukraine for using drone and missile attacks to disrupt its three-day presidential poll. The election is set to hand President Vladimir Putin his fifth term in office. On Sunday, the poll concludes.
On Saturday, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskiy did not directly mention the reported intensified attacks by Kyiv forces in his nightly video address. However, he thanked his army and intelligence for new “long-range capabilities.”
