British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced on Sunday that British military aircraft successfully intercepted drones launched by Iran during its assault on Israel, reported Reuters.
“Our planes indeed downed several Iranian attack drones,” Sunak stated in remarks to broadcasters.
In a recent development, Iran issued a warning to Israel on Sunday, cautioning that any retaliation against Tehran’s drone and missile strike would prompt a broader assault on Israeli territory. Additionally, Iran threatened to target U.S. sites if Washington supported Israeli military actions against Iran.
In response to Israel’s attack on its consulate in Syria’s capital on April 1, resulting in the deaths of seven Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps members, Iran carried out a retaliatory strike on Israeli soil late Saturday. This marked Iran’s first direct attack on Israeli territory, involving explosive drones and missile launches.
“Our retaliation will far exceed tonight’s military actions should Israel choose to retaliate against Iran,” stated Major General Mohammad Bagheri, chief of staff of Iran’s armed forces, in an address to state television. Bagheri also indicated that Tehran had warned the United States through Switzerland that supporting Israeli retaliation against Iran would lead to the targeting of U.S. regional bases.
“Our operations have concluded, and we have no plans to continue,” Bagheri declared, asserting that Iran’s attack had successfully struck two Israeli military installations.
Speaking on Iranian state television, Major General Hossein Salami, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, declared that Tehran had entered a new phase, wherein any Israeli aggression against Iranian interests, assets, officials, or citizens would be met with reciprocal measures from Iranian territory.
