The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting conflict-hit nations, with Ukraine being a significant beneficiary of its humanitarian efforts. Amidst the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, the UAE has taken several impactful measures to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the conflict.

A key highlight of the UAE’s involvement is its successful mediation in seven prisoner exchanges between Russia and Ukraine, leading to the release of 1,788 captives. The most recent exchange in August 2024 saw the liberation of 230 individuals. Additionally, the UAE has made a substantial financial contribution of USD 105 million to support humanitarian efforts in Ukraine.

According to an official statement from the UAE government, in terms of on-ground assistance, the UAE has deployed 14 aid airplanes carrying relief supplies directly to Ukraine, complemented by two ships delivering aid to neighboring Romania. The country has provided over 1,015 tonnes of food and essential relief supplies, helping to address the immediate needs of those in conflict zones. Furthermore, the UAE has distributed 7,500 laptops and 10,000 school bags to ensure continued education for Ukrainian children amidst the turmoil.

Recognizing the harsh winter conditions in Ukraine, the UAE has delivered 4,520 electric generators to combat power outages, along with 50 fully-equipped ambulances to bolster Ukraine’s healthcare system. Extending its support beyond Ukraine, the UAE has also dispatched humanitarian aid to Ukrainian refugees in Moldova, Poland, and Bulgaria.

These efforts not only highlight the UAE’s dedication to humanitarian causes but also reinforce the growing UAE-Ukraine relations, underscoring a partnership built on empathy and support in times of crisis.
