The White House stated that President Donald Trump wants Harvard to issue an apology, in response to a question about whether he is considering revoking the university’s tax-exempt status. Press secretary Karoline Leavitt said, “When it comes to Harvard, as I said, the president has been quite clear, they must follow federal law”.

She stated that the president also wanted to “see Harvard apologise” for the rejection of the demands made by the Trump administration. Moreover, President Trump also asked for an apology for the promotion of “egregious anti-Semitism that took place on their college campus against Jewish American students” as per the secretary.

Following this remark, the US President took to Truth Social and mentioned that, “Harvard should lose its Tax Exempt Status and be taxed as a Political Entity if it keeps pushing political, ideological, and terrorist inspired/supporting “Sickness?” Remember, Tax Exempt Status is totally contingent on acting in the PUBLIC INTEREST!”

In contracts, the Trump administration froze over $2 billion in grants and $60 million last week after Harvard refused to follow a new federal directive. This order demanded the dismantling of the university’s diversity, equality and inclusion (DIE) offices also bringing a change in its hiring and admission policies to cooperate with immigration checks of international students.

As a response to this directive, Harvard said that the directive violates the first amendment and the Trump led government is overstepping its legal authority. Issuing a public statement, the university mentioned, “No government — regardless of which party is in power — should dictate what private universities can teach, whom they can admit and hire, and which areas of study and inquiry they can pursue”.

While Harvard remains open to a dialogue, the Trump administration has issued a public apology demand while freezing the funding of the university. At the behest of protecting civil rights and ensuring taxpayer accountability, these steps come during Trump’s anti-semitisim allegation on Harvard.
