US President Donald Trump has dismissed rising car prices and national security message leaks in an interview with NBC News. He said that he has no regrets about his trade decisions or how his administration handled a Signal group chat in which military plans were mistakenly shared with a journalist.
When asked whether he was worried regrading the cost of cars going up because of his proposed 25% tariffs on foreign automobiles and parts, Trump responded, ”I couldn’t care less if they raise prices, because people are going to start buying American-made cars.” He asserted that the tariffs were a push to domestic manufacturing. Trump stated, ”The message is congratulations, if you make your car in the United States, you are going to make a lot of money.”
Trump statement on auto price hike
On the question whether he has warned automakers against a surge in prices, Trump declined the report, saying, ”No, I never said that. I couldn’t care less.” According to an NBC News report, the tariffs will also be implemented on foreign auto parts, though USMCA-compliant parts will be spared for now. Terming the new tariffs ”permanent,” Trump mentioned, ”The world has been ripping off the United States for the last 40 years and more. And all we are doing is being fair.”
US President on Signal group chat leak
Trump also commented on the Signal group chat leaked row in which national security adviser Michael Waltz mistakenly added a journalist in a conversation related to planned military strikes. The US President stated that no one would be fired. ”I don’t fire people because of fake news and because of witch hunts,” he stated in defence of both Waltz and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
He also brushed off concerns related to the messaging app itself. ”I have no idea what Signal is. I don’t care what Signal is,” Trump told to NBC News, terming the coverage as ”fake news.”
Trump also reasserted his interest in acquiring Greenland, telling, ”We’ll get Greenland. Yeah, 100%.” and affirmed, ”I don’t take anything off the table.”
