Russian President Vladimir Putin is all set to visit India in December, according to Bloomberg. Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Putin, said that the Kremlin would announce the dates of the visit to India.

In October 2025, over a phone call, Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed their commitment to deepen further the “special and privileged strategic partnership” between their countries, according to a statement from the South Asian nation’s government at the time. Modi and Putin last met in Beijing when Chinese President Xi Jinping hosted a summit in the port city of Tianjin in September.

India has previously resisted the call by President Donald Trump to halt purchases of Russian oil after the US imposed a 50 per cent tariff on Indian exports. The tariff was imposed to increase the pressure to halt Moscow’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Donald Trump on Tuesday said Washington and New Delhi were ‘pretty close’ to finalising trade, which will allow him to reduce tariffs on Indian exports. The US president’s statement came amid a reduction in India’s purchases of Russian oil, which have soared since the war began in 2022.

Roscongress initially announced on its website that President Vladimir Putin would be visiting New Delhi on December 5 to participate in the plenary session of the conference. However, a Bloomberg report revealed that the information about Putin’s visit was later removed from the website.
