Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to visit India on December 4–5 for the 23rd India-Russia bilateral summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This will be his first visit to India in four years. The trip is expected to open a new chapter in strategic relations between the two countries, with major agreements, meetings with business leaders, and a state banquet planned.

What time will Putin land in India

According to the Indian Express, Putin will arrive in New Delhi on the evening of December 4, where Prime Minister Modi will host a private dinner in his honour at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg. The visit also marks 25 years of the strategic partnership between India and Russia, making it highly significant for both countries. What makes this visit even more important is that it is Putin’s first trip to India since Russia’s military action in Ukraine began in 2022.

Putin’s itinerary on December 5 

The main events will take place on December 5. In the morning, Putin will be welcomed at Rashtrapati Bhavan with a ceremonial tri-service guard of honour. He will then visit Rajghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.

When will the India-Russia summit take place?

On December 5, at around 11 am at Hyderabad House, Prime Minister Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold the 23rd India–Russia Summit. During this meeting, several important agreements are expected in areas like defence, energy, trade, technology, space, and strategic cooperation. The two leaders will also issue a joint statement following their discussions.

What time will the India-Russia Business Forum begin

In the afternoon of December 5, around 4 pm, both leaders will address the India–Russia Business Forum. The two leaders will travel to Bharat Mandapam for a meeting with the business leaders, according to the Indian Express. This discussion will focus on further strengthening bilateral trade. The collaboration between the two countries has seen significant growth in recent years. 

According to officials in the Ministry of External Affairs, the two countries are also finalising a labour mobility agreement, allowing skilled and semi-skilled Indian workers to work in Russia’s construction, healthcare, and hospitality sectors.

There will also be discussions on a potential free-trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union, civil nuclear cooperation, the safe return of Indian nationals in the Russian military, and boosting defence ties. 

When will Putin meet President Murmu?

In the evening, around 7 pm, President Draupadi Murmu will host a state banquet in Putin’s honour. After spending nearly 30 hours in India, Putin will depart late on December 5.

During the visit, Russia Today will also launch its operations in India, with a 100-member bureau reporting from the country.
