Russian President Vladimir Putin has accepted an invitation from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit India in early 2025. Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov confirmed the development, stating that the dates for the visit will be finalized next year.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

According to Ushakov, PM Modi and President Putin maintain an agreement to hold annual meetings, alternating between the two nations. “This time, it’s our turn. We received Mr. Modi’s invitation and will certainly consider it positively,” he added during a briefing.

This visit will mark Putin’s first trip to India since the onset of the Ukraine-Russia conflict in 2022. India has consistently advocated for “peace and diplomacy” to resolve the ongoing crisis.

Frequent Engagement Between Leaders

PM Modi and President Putin share a robust diplomatic relationship, engaging in regular phone conversations and in-person meetings. In 2024, the two leaders met twice, including during PM Modi’s visit to Moscow for the 22nd Russia-India Summit. This trip, PM Modi’s first bilateral visit after resuming office for a third term, was a notable highlight of their engagement.

During the visit, PM Modi was honored with Russia’s highest civilian award, The Order of St. Andrew the Apostle, for his contributions to India-Russia relations. The leaders also toured the Rosatom Pavilion at Moscow’s VDNKh Exhibition Centre, further strengthening ties in nuclear energy cooperation.

Upcoming Diplomatic Milestone

Putin’s visit to India in 2025 will serve as a significant opportunity to deepen the long-standing strategic partnership between the two nations. As preparations begin, both leaders are expected to continue their discussions on global and bilateral issues, underscoring the enduring friendship between India and Russia.
