Hours after US President Donald Trump said that he would always be friends with PM Narendra Modi and that he is a great Prime Minister, the man himself has reacted to the praise. He said that he “deeply appreciates” and “fully reciprocates” the relationship they share.

What did PM Modi say?

PM Narendra Modi took to Twitter to respond to Trump’s remarks on the India-US relationship.

“Deeply appreciate and fully reciprocate President Trump’s sentiments and positive assessment of our ties. India and the US have a very positive and forward-looking Comprehensive and Global Strategic Partnership,” He posted on X on Saturday.

Modi’s remarks came in the wake of Trump’s comments to reporters on Friday, where he said that India and the United States have a special relationship.

Trump’s statement was viewed by many as an attempt to soften his previous take on United States losing India and Russia to deepest and darkest China.

Trump’s viral comment on the US losing India and Russia to China came as a part of his elaborate reaction to the footage from the latest SCO summit, where PM Modi, XI Jinping and Vladimir Putin were seen discussing global matters together.

“Looks like we’ve lost India and Russia to deepest, darkest China. May they have a long and prosperous future together!” Trump wrote in a post on his social media platform.

EAM Jaishankar has also commented on the exchange between PM Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump. “PM Modi attaches enormous importance to our partnership with the US. He (PM Modi) has always had a very good personal equation with President Trump. But the point is that we remain engaged with the US, and at this time.” Jaishankar told press on Saturday

Trump’s latest comments on US-India bilateral ties

After being pressed by reporters about one of his more recent Truth Social posts, where the 47th American president wished India and Russia to have a long, prosperous future together with China, and expressed concerns about diminishing ties with two big countries. Trump remarked that there is not much to worry about in relation to India-US ties.

“I don’t think we have” (President Trump, when asked about his Truth Social post about “losing India”). I’ll always be friends with (Narendra) Modi… He’s a great prime minister. He’s great. But I just don’t like what he’s doing at this particular moment. But India and the United States have a special relationship. There’s nothing to worry about. We just have moments on occasion,” Trump told the press.

“I am very disappointed that India would be buying so much oil from Russia, and I let them know that. We put a very big tariff on India, a 50 per cent tariff, a very high tariff. I get along very well with (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi; he’s great. He was here a couple of months ago,” he added.
