Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on October 23, during the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia. This marks their first meeting since the 2019 summit in Mamallapuram, Tamil Nadu.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed the bilateral meeting, which comes shortly after India and China made progress in resolving the ongoing standoff along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh. The leaders are expected to discuss key issues, including border tensions and strengthening bilateral relations.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian announced on Tuesday that China and India have been in close contact through diplomatic and military channels regarding the border issues, and both sides have now reached a resolution.
Relations between the two nations deteriorated sharply after the violent clash in the Galwan Valley in June 2020, which was the most serious military conflict between the two in decades.
On Monday, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stated that Indian and Chinese soldiers would soon resume patrolling along the border as they had before the standoff began.
