As discussions intensify globally over a potential peace plan to resolve the Ukraine-Russia conflict, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s influence in helping bring the war to an end. Speaking exclusively with The Times of India, Zelenskyy highlighted Modi’s unique role, emphasizing, “PM Modi can influence the end of the Ukraine war. This is the huge value of him in any conflict.”
Over recent months, India has actively engaged with both Ukraine and Russia through high-level diplomacy. PM Modi’s recent meetings with Zelenskyy in the U.S. and his visits to Moscow and Kyiv reflect India’s growing involvement. Zelenskyy shared hopes that PM Modi could potentially host peace negotiations, noting, “We need to prepare ourselves… and only according to our format because the war is on our land.”
Facing a challenging winter and an intensified Russian offensive in the Donbas region, Ukraine is bolstering its energy systems to endure the conflict. Emphasizing his commitment to a “victory plan,” Zelenskyy stressed, “The Victory Plan is not a bargaining chip… We are not asking for quick NATO membership but an invitation for future security.”
Ukraine seeks India’s support for a “just peace” that aligns with international law. In a statement during the BRICS summit, PM Modi reinforced India’s commitment to peace, stating, “We believe that problems should be resolved only through peaceful means,” highlighting India’s readiness to aid in restoring stability in Europe’s most severe conflict since World War II.
