Pakistan was left red-faced at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) meeting where the members were discussing Israel’s strikes in Qatar targeting top leaders of Hamas terrorist organisation. It took a human rights lawyer only four seconds and one sentence to show Pakistan its place, after which it interrupted the lawyer midway.

The lawyer, Hillel Neuer, shared the video of his address after several member states condemned Israel’s actions. Neuer was sharing his views wherein he called out many countries, stating that those who “harbour terrorists” are condemning the attack. He questioned Qatar for giving space to Hamas and asked why it did so.

According to reports, Qatar has hosted the political office of Hamas, a US-designated terror organisation, since 2012. Last week, Israel targeted a building where several top leaders of Hamas were present.

“If you don’t want targeted bombings on terrorists in your capital, why do you harbor terrorists in your capital? Why is your Al Jazeera serving as Hamas’ non-stop propaganda arm?  Why do you act as a mediator by day, and a terror sponsor by night?” Neuer asked.

Neuer calls out UN Chief, others for condemning attack

After many countries issued their statement and spoke against the attack, Neuer said, “Mr. President, we have heard a lot about international law – from the world’s worst violators of international law. It’s time to challenge the perpetrators.”

He asked why Qatar hosted Ismail Haniyeh, Khaled Mashal, and Khalil al-Hayya in luxury hotels, from where they planned their terrorist activities. “Why did you back Hamas’s Gaza coup in 2007?…Why did you blame Israel for October 7, absolving Hamas of massacring 1200 Israelis, Americans and others?” he added.

He also questioned the UN chief’s remark condemning the attack and asked why he hailed the US when it killed Al-Qaeda operative Osama bin-laden.

“Yesterday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and French President Emmanuel Macron condemned Israel. But when the U.S. killed Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan, the UN chief at the time celebrated that “justice has been done to such a mastermind of international terrorism,” he said.

Pak interrupts when Osama’s name mentioned

The human rights lawyer was making his statement when he referenced Al-Qaeda’s former chief and key conspirator of the 9/11 attack, Osama bin-laden. The reference was to the US’ covert operation to kill Laden in Pakistan’s Abbottabad. Soon the name was pronounced, the Pakistani delegate interrupted him mid-speech, seemingly irritated over the mention.

He asked the council chairperson to ensure that no speaker violated the principles of the UN Charter and the territorial integrity of sovereign member states. “We reject casting unfounded accusations and allegations,” the Pak delegate said.

The Chair soon asked Neuer to continue and said he only had four seconds. The lawyer made a smart use of four seconds to pull down Pak, and continue what he was saying earlier.

“Mr President, Pakistan is another state sponsor of terror,” Neuer snapped as he concluded his speech, leaving Pakistan embarrassed.
