For the Presidential elections, former Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and Mahmood Achakzai have submitted their nomination papers. Polls are set to be held in the country on March 9, reported Pakistan-based The News International.
Zardari is a joint candidate of the Pakistan Peoples Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party’s (PKMAP) chief Achakzai as a candidate of the Sunni Ittehad Council. In Islamabad High Court, the two leaders submitted nomination papers.
According to The News International report, Zardari submitted two nomination papers – one in Islamabad and the second in Karachi.
As independent candidates, three Pakistani citizens (Asghar Ali Mubarak, Abdul Qadoos, and Waheed Ahmed Kamal) submitted nomination papers for the President’s position.
On Monday, the scrutiny of the nomination papers will be conducted.
Notably, the electoral college comprising members of the National Assembly, the Senate, and the four provincial assemblies elect the President of Pakistan.
Through a secret ballot, the voting for the Presidential election is held, reported The News International.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, a delegation led by Awami National Party (ANP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Aimal Wali Khan held a discussion with Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians President Asif Ali Zardari at the Zardari House.
After the discussion, the PPP in a statement said that ANP has declared support for Zardari in the Presidential polls.
