Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to visit India soon, with both India and Ukraine trying to work out a “precise date,” according to Ukraine’s envoy Oleksandr Polishchuk. This follows PM Modi’s invitation to Zelenskyy after he visited Kyiv in August last year.
It also comes amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. Zelenskyy recently held talks with US President Donald Trump, before flying down to the US and meeting him in person for peace talks at the White House. This came after Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin met in Alaska.
Zelenskyy to visit India soon
“… In relation to the declaration about the future strategic partnership between India and Ukraine, believe me, we have potential for that. The Indian Prime Minister invited Zelensky to come to India. Both sides are working on this. We expect President Zelenskyy to be in India, definitely. It will be a great achievement in our bilateral relationship…,” Ambassador of Ukraine to India Oleksandr Polishchuk told news agency ANI.
He further added, “We are trying to agree on a precise date….”

PM Modi’s visit to Ukraine
In August 2023, PM Modi visited Ukraine at the invitation of President Zelenskyy, marking the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister since diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1992. During the visit, the leaders discussed bilateral ties and how they can take them from a comprehensive partnership to a strategic one in the future, which is grounded in “mutual trust, respect, and transparency”.
“The Leaders reviewed the steady and positive trajectory of bilateral ties that have strengthened significantly over the last three decades, and appreciated the role played by regular engagements between India and Ukraine at various levels, including their meetings in Apulia in June 2024 and in Hiroshima in May 2023 on the margins of the G7 Summits, the visit of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to New Delhi in March 2024, multiple interactions and telephone conversations between the External Affairs Minister of India and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine; between the National Security Advisor of India and the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, and the 9th round of Foreign Office Consultations held in Kyiv in July 2023, in enhancing mutual understanding, trust, and cooperation,” read a part of joint statement issued by India and Ukraine.
