Iskcon Kolkata spokesperson Radharamn Das has alleged that Advocate Ramen Roy, who defended Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu in a legal case in Bangladesh, was brutally attacked at his residence by a group of Islamists. Roy is currently in critical condition and fighting for his life in an ICU.

Advocate Attacked for Legal Defence

According to Das, the assault occurred as a direct consequence of Roy’s legal representation of Prabhu, a Hindu monk who was arrested in Dhaka while en route to Chattogram. “Please pray for Advocate Ramen Roy. His only ‘fault’ was defending Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu in court,” Das posted on X, alongside a picture of Roy in the ICU.

The spokesperson further claimed that Roy’s home was ransacked during the attack, leaving him critically injured. Speaking to a Bengali news channel, Das, also the vice president of ISKCON Kolkata, said, “This brutal attack reflects the growing dangers faced by those defending religious minorities in Bangladesh.”

Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu, formerly a spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jote, was arrested on Monday at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and later denied bail. He was sent to jail on Tuesday.

Hindus in Bangladesh have faced significant socio-political marginalisation over the decades. During the 1971 Liberation War, Hindus comprised about 22% of the country’s population. However, this figure has dropped to approximately 8%, attributed to factors such as exodus, violence, and systemic discrimination.

The allegations highlight the challenges faced by religious minorities and those who advocate for their rights in the region.
