Kash Patel, US Federal Bureau of Investigation Director, took to X on Monday and said that justice will be done in Harpreet Singh’s case, who is part of an alleged “foreign terrorist gag” involved in Punjab attacks, news agency ANI reported.
“CAPTURED: HARPREET SINGH, part of an alleged foreign terrorist gang here illegally in the United States, who we believe was involved in planning multiple attacks on police stations both in India and the United States,” Patel wrote on X.
He further hailed FBI Sacramento’s efforts who worked with the local partners and with India. “Excellent work from all, and justice will be done,” Patel said. He added that FBI will continue its efforts to find the perpetrators of violence, “no matter where they are”.
Who is Harpreet Singh?
Harpreet Singh was arrested just weeks after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) linked him to the 2024 grenade attack in Chandigarh. He and Pakistan-based terrorist Harwinder Singh Sandhu, also known as Rinda, were named as the main planners of the attack.
They are accused of giving weapons, money, and help to others who carried out the attack. The target was a house that is believed to have belonged to a retired Punjab Police officer.
Harpreet Singh, also known as Happy Passia or Jora, is from Passia village in the Amritsar district of Punjab. He lived in the UK for a short time before crossing illegally into the United States from Mexico in 2021.
Singh is believed to be a key member of Babbar Khalsa International, a banned Khalistani terrorist group that has links to Pakistan’s spy agency ISI. This group has carried out several attacks trying to bring back Sikh militancy in India.
The grenade attack in Chandigarh was reportedly part of this larger plan. Singh and Rinda had recruited two men, Rohan Masih and Vishal Masih, to check the area and then throw a grenade at the target, according to ANI.
