An Indian-origin student pilot was killed on Tuesday as two training aircraft collided in Canada. The incident took place in Manitoba — about about 400 metres from a runway used by Harv’s Air pilot school. Kerala resident Sreehari Sukesh and his classmate Savanna May Royce were killed on impact while attempting to land their aircraft.

“With profound sorrow, we mourn the tragic passing of Sreehari Sukesh, a young Indian student pilot, who lost his life in a mid-air collision near Steinbach, Manitoba. We extend our deepest condolences to his family. The Consulate is in contact with the bereaved family, the pilot training school and local police to provide all necessary assistance,” the Indian Embassy wrote on X.

According to reports, they had been flying two single-engine aircraft and collided while attempting to land at the same time. The planes had subsequently caught on fire and crashed about 400 metres from the airstrip. Sreehari had been preparing for his commercial certication while Royce was training for her private pilot license. They were both pronounced dead at the scene.
