Zohran Mamdani stunned New Yorkers on Tuesday night with the city’s Democratic mayoral primary win. But the 33-year-old didn’t just make headlines for his win, he also drew strong criticism from US President Donald Trump. Trump posted several messages attacking Mamdani’s looks, voice, and intelligence. He also mentioned Mamdani’s political friends and called him “a 100% Communist Lunatic.”
“Zohran Mamdani, a 100% Communist Lunatic, has just won the Dem Primary, and is on his way to becoming Mayor,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “We’ve had Radical Lefties before, but this is getting a little ridiculous. He looks TERRIBLE, his voice is grating, he’s not very smart,” he added further.
Trump also took aim at Mamdani’s supporters, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. He also mocked Senator Chuck Schumer for supporting Mamdani and claimed that this win marked a troubling moment in the country’s political history.
“He’s got AOC+3, Dummies ALL, backing him, and even our Great Palestinian Senator, Cryin’ Chuck Schumer, is groveling over him. Yes, this is a big moment in the History of our Country!” Trump wrote.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams calls Mamdani a ‘snake oil salesman’
In a separate interview, New York City Mayor Eric Adams while speaking on Fox & Friends, called Zohran Mamdani a “snake oil salesman” and accused him of being willing to “say or do anything to get elected.”
Adams went on to criticise Mamdani’s understanding of governance, saying, “He doesn’t understand the power of government or how to make sure that you’re improving your economy, raise the standard of living.” He then praised his own leadership, adding, “this is what we’ve been doing in the city.”
Adams himself was previously involved in a corruption case brought by the Department of Justice, but the charges were later dropped following intervention from the Trump administration—a decision that drew widespread criticism.
