Who was George Foreman?
Foreman was born in Marshall, Texas on January 10, 1949 and was raised in Houston’s Fifth Ward, Foreman’s earlier years were filled with hardship. He was brought up a single mother along with six other siblings. Later he dropped from school and got involved in street crime. His life took a U-turn when the Job Corps program helped him in leaving that path and shifted him into boxing.
Won Olympic gold in 1968
His natural strength and determination led him to win Olympic gold in 1968. Just a few years later he clenched the world heavyweight title by beating Joe Frazier in 1973. However, his dramatic defeat from Muhammad Ali in the famous 1974 ‘’Rumble in the Jungle’’ attracted global headlines. Ali’s strategic ‘’rope-a dope’’ plan outlasted Foreman’s powerful offense, making him a career-defining defeat.
In 1977 he retired and became a minister, Foreman shocked the world by returning to boxing a decade later. At the age of 15, 315-pound Foreman knocked out Michael Moorer to become the oldest heavyweight champion in history.
