Former US President Donald Trump at a campaign event on Tuesday (September 17) referred to India as a “very big abuser” of the US-India trade relationship and announced that he will meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi next week. Trump shared this opinion while talking about international relations.

US-India bilateral relations

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden is all set to host a meeting with leaders from India, Japan, and Australia on September 21 in Delaware. Trump has not shared much about his meeting with PM Modi. Recently, almost all the world leaders who have paid a visit to the US for a meeting with Biden have also met with Trump. These meetings reflect the former president’s influence on a global platform. Experts believe that Washington considers India as a strategic counterbalance to face China’s ever-growing influence in Asia.

Modi-Trump relationship

Despite criticizing India on its trade policy, Trump has praised Modi as ”fantastic”. The two leaders have a track record of sharing a warm relationship. PM Modi had organized a massive rally for Trump when he was on tour to India and also opened the world’s largest cricket stadium. Supporters were seen wearing ”Namaste Trump” hats. Their companionship was also witnessed in Texas in 2019 when they attended ”Howdy, Modi!” event together.

More than 50,000 people were present during the rally. PM Modi has continued to boost US US-India bilateral relationship by collaborating in the field of commerce and defense sector. The Prime Minister has maintained a cordial relationship with Democratic leaders and former President like Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
