After India and Canada’s relations hit a new low post Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s allegation against India in the killing of a Khalistani terrorist, British Labour Party MP Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi took to X, formerly Twitter, to say, “Concerning reports coming from Canada.”

Dhesi added that many Sikh community people from England’s Slough and other places have contacted him. Their emotions have ranged from anxious to angry to fearful, he tweeted. Given Canadian PM Trudeau stated they’ve been working with close allies, we’re in touch with [the] UK Gov to ensure justice is delivered,” he further said.

What has Trudeau accused India of?

The Canadian PM has accused India of being behind the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The terrorist was shot dead by two unknown assailants near Vancouver on June 18. Canada also expelled a top Indian diplomat Monday.

Following this, India also announced its decision to expel a senior Canadian diplomat currently stationed in the country. The Ministry of External Affairs said that the concerned diplomat has been asked to leave India within the next five days. India has rejected the claims by Trudeau and called them “absurd” and “motivated”.

‘Not looking to provoke India’

Trudeau on Tuesday said he was “not looking to provoke or escalate” the matter. However, he said India should deal with the issue with “utmost seriousness”. “The government of India needs to take this matter with the utmost seriousness. We are doing that, we are not looking to provoke or escalate,” Trudeau told reporters, as per a Reuters report.
