The Dhaka metro has resumed its services after more than 30 days of suspension because of anti-government protests in Bangladesh. The operations started on Sunday bringing a huge sigh of relief for the commuters. Two major stations-Kazipara and Mirpur-10 saw major protests resulting in the shutdown which was implemented from the third week of July. According to the official statement, these two stations will remain closed.

Security Measures enhanced

To protect the metro infrastructure from future incidents of destruction, the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) is planning to strengthen its security. Road Transport and Communication Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Khan stated that the government is thinking of declaring metro services as an essential service to protect it from any further disturbance. The metro services were opted by the Khan from Agargon to Bangladesh Secretariat stations. He also underlined the importance of protecting this transport network.

Dhaka Metro Project

Under the guidance of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and Japanese assistance, the Dhaka Metro project aims to ease traffic congestion. The metro phase expansion will continue to further advance under the mentorship of DMRC consultants despite the ongoing challenges. The Dhaka Metro is currently being advised by the DMRC remotely because of the political turmoil.

As per the latest report by PTI, Dhaka is slowly getting back to normal as taxis have started to run along with the metros. University students can be seen going outside. Businesses have restarted their operation but not in their usual manner in the capital of Bangladesh.
