According to a press release issued early October 8 morning, the Israeli military appears to have attacked the humanitarian mission Flotilla once again in international waters. The Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) and Thousand Madleens to Gaza (TMTG) said three boats – Gaza Sunbirds, Alaa Al-Najajr, Anas Al-Sharif – were “illegally intercepted by Israeli forces at 04:34 at 120 nautical miles (220km) from Gaza.

Activists behind the mission took to social media to share the livestream link and snaps of the alleged incident. “Footage from the Israeli Occupation Forces assault on #Conscience, shortly before dawn,” the FFC wrote on X. “In international waters, close to Palestinian territorial waters. Another act of state piracy by the rogue, lawless Israeli occupation..”

The new updates emerged shortly after Swedish activist Greta Thunberg briefly addressed alleged mistreatment at the hand of Israeli forces. During a news conference upon her arrival at the Athens airport, she seemingly affirmed that she and other Flotilla detainees had been tortured.

However, she quickly turned the focus back onto Gaza. Noting that the alleged abuse and imprisonment was not the story, she said, “Let me be very clear: there is a genocide going on in front of our very eyes, a live-streamed genocide. No one has the privilege to say we are not aware of what’s happening. No one in the future will be able to say we did not know.”
