In a chilling act of violence amid growing unrest in Balochistan, journalist Abdul Latif Baloch was shot dead on Saturday while resisting an attempted abduction.
According to DSP Daniyal Kakar, unidentified gunmen stormed his house in Quetta and tried to kidnap him. “When he resisted, he was shot dead on the spot,” Kakar said. The assailants managed to escape, and no arrests have been made so far.
Not the first time
This isn’t the first tragedy for the Baloch family. A few months ago, Abdul Latif’s eldest son was kidnapped under similar mysterious circumstances and was later found dead.

Like in 1971, the rogue Pakistan army conducted an operation search light and eliminated the cream of Bengali people in order to create an intellectual crisis, the same tactic is being applied by the Na-Pakistan army and the ISI in PoB.

Condemnation from Pak journalistic circles
The killing has sparked outrage among journalist associations across Pakistan. The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) condemned the murder, calling it an attack on press freedom. Baloch worked for the Daily Intekhab, a Quetta-based newspaper known for its regional coverage.
International pressure
Tara Chand, President of the Baloch American Congress, appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to support the cause of a free Balochistan. In a public letter, Chand accused Pakistan of committing gross human rights violations against the Baloch population, including genocide, enforced disappearances and systematic torture.
Baloch independence declaration
Earlier this month, Mir Yar Baloch declared Balochistan’s independence from Pakistan. He urged the Indian public and media to stop referring to Balochs as “Pakistan’s own people,” asserting a distinct national identity.
Meanwhile, Police continue to investigate the murder of Abdul Latif Baloch.
