America’s public broadcasting organisation National Public Radio (NPR) has filed a lawsuit on Tuesday against President Donald Trump, challenging his executive order to halt all federal funding to the nonprofit broadcaster.
In the suit, filed in federal court in Washington, NPR along with three other public radio stations argues that the May 1 order violates First Amendment protections of free speech and press. The plaintiffs also contend that the move oversteps presidential authority and infringes on powers granted to Congress.
