North Korea leader Kim Jong Un on Thursday exchanged letters with Russian President Vladimir Putin expressing their commitment to strengthening their ties and relationship. The letter marks the 75th anniversary of bilateral relations between the two nations. This comes about a month after his rare trip to Russia.

In his letter to Putin, Kim extended well-wishes to the Russian President for success over what he called hegemony and pressure from imperialists. He also pledged to further develop relations to a “new height”. The North Korean leader further added that he was extremely satisfied with their “candid, comprehensive” discussions during the visit last month.
“I hope that the Russian people, who have set out to build a strong nation, will always achieve only victory and glory in their struggle to protect the country’s sovereignty, dignity, security and peace by crushing the imperialists’ persistent hegemonic policy and anti-Russia scheme to isolate and stifle it,” Kim said, reports Reuters.Vladimir Putin’s message to Kim
In his message to Kim, the Russian President said that their recent meeting will improve the well-being of the peoples of the two countries. “I am convinced that implementing the agreements will contribute to further expanding the constructive bilateral cooperation and ensuring security and stability in the Korean peninsula and Northeast Asia as a whole.”

The two countries – North Korea and Russia (the then Soviet Union) had forged diplomatic ties on October 12, 1948, which recognised the North as a state for the first time in the world map.

In a speech to the annual high-level UN General Assembly last month, Yoon said that if Russia helped North Korea enhance its weapons programs in return for assistance for its war in Ukraine, it would be “a direct provocation” and Seoul and its allies would not stand idly by.
