A dramatic rescue caught on CCTV has highlighted both the danger posed by rain-flooded streets and the courage of everyday citizens. In Chennai, a young school boy was electrocuted after stepping into stagnant rainwater that had become electrified due to a suspected underground cable leak.

As the boy collapsed into the water, 24-year-old Kannan Tamizhselvan, who happened to be passing by on his motorbike, spotted the incident and sprang into action. Surveillance footage shows Kannan stopping his bike, rushing toward the boy, and pulling him out of the water.

Kannan’s quick response and presence of mind have drawn widespread appreciation. Locals are calling him a hero and demanding immediate intervention by civic and electricity officials to prevent such accidents during the monsoon.

Civic authorities say an investigation is underway to trace the source of the electrical leak, while the electricity board has begun inspections of vulnerable areas across the city.

Authorities have launched a probe into the incident and have assured steps to prevent such accidents in the future.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday said that Chennai is expected to receive light rainfall accompanied by a gentle breeze over the next two days. While the city has been reeling under intense heat recently, this change in weather is likely to bring some respite. However, the IMD clarified that temperatures are not expected to drop significantly.

According to the Chennai Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature over the next two days is likely to remain between 37 and 38 degrees Celsius, with a minimum temperature of around 28 degrees Celsius. The department also noted that wind speeds could reach up to 55 kilometers per hour in key areas, including the South Tamil Nadu coast, the Gulf of Mannar, and nearby parts of the Kumari Sea, until April 22.
