Indian cricket star Rohit Sharma grabbed attention when he drove his brand-new Tesla Model Y to an award show in Mumbai. A video of him driving the sleek ‘Quicksilver’ coloured electric SUV went viral on social media, with fans and car enthusiasts praising it.

An X (formerly Twitter) user named Teslaconomics who usually post videos of Tesla, shared Sharma’s video with a caption: “This is why Tesla doesn’t need to advertise – Rohit Sharma (captain of India’s national cricket team), who has 45M followers on Instagram, just bought a new Tesla Model Y”.

The post caught the attention of Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who retweeted it, sending the internet into a frenzy. One user said, “Good products like Tesla need not advertise but word of mouth can spread like wildfire”.

While another echoed the same views, “When you make a great product, it sells itself. Tesla has one of highest satisfaction ratings and repeat customers amongst autos,” the user wrote.

Sharma’s Tesla also features a special number plate, 3015, which fans believe is a tribute to the birthdays of his children, Samaira and Ahaan. This personal touch sparked even more interest online.

He made this public appearance after being removed as India’s ODI captain, attending the CEAT Cricket Awards in Mumbai on Tuesday.

Rohit Sharma has long been a car enthusiast. His garage reportedly includes a Mercedes-Benz G-Class, BMW 7 Series, Audi Q7 and a Range Rover. He often drove his blue Lamborghini with the registration number 264, a tribute to his world-record 264-run ODI innings.

About the Tesla Model Y

The Model Y is Tesla’s popular electric SUV, known for its modern design, strong performance and eco-friendly technology. Rohit’s choice matches his stylish and contemporary image off the cricket field.

Rohit will soon be back on the field for India’s tour of Australia, playing three ODIs from October 19 to 25. Alongside Virat Kohli, he has been picked as a specialist batter. Shubman Gill will lead the team, marking Rohit and Virat’s first international games since the Champions Trophy win in March.
