A restaurant owner has alleged that a policeman visited his restaurant not to place an order, but to demand bribes in the form of money and free food. He also shared screenshots from CCTV footage that show the cop attached to Delhi Police standing outside the kitchen. The restaurant’s owner, Gagandeep Singh Sapra, later shared images of the man in uniform on social media and shared his ordeal. When Sapra raised the issue with the DCP South East Delhi, he claims he was first told to delete his tweet before any discussion could take place.

“Hey, CP Delhi. This person has come to our kitchen and is asking for a bribe, to pay him money and give him food – this is getting ridiculous every day,” Sapra wrote on X.

He tagged DCP South East Delhi and added, “They are given a salary by the Government, why do they have to ask for Bribes and trouble businesses?”

One of the images, taken from CCTV footage, shows the cop standing just outside the restaurant’s kitchen. Another captures both a worker and the cop inside the kitchen. A third image shows the cop standing at the top of a staircase, speaking on a phone call.

In the comments section, he added, “A few days back, this happened in Nehru Place. The DCP South East was unhelpful, said, ‘Aapne tweet kar diya hum kya karien, pehle tweet delete karo fir baat karenge.’” [You’ve tweeted about it. What are we supposed to do now? First, delete the tweet, then we’ll talk.]

The police have yet to respond to the claims made by Gagandeep Singh Sapra.

Here’s what social media users have to say:

“Shame on Delhi Police and DCP South East Delhi. I have rarely seen the Delhi Police working. Crooked ones like those in the video are hell bent on harassing those who wish to go the right way,” said one social media user.

Another added, “Good. Expose corrupt officials and show their faces to the public.”

“Any update here? Did the so-called Dilli ki Police act?” asked a third.

A fourth said, “Quite concerning.”
